Medical Equipment: Brookside Lions Club

 Are you in need of medical equipment and don’t know where to get it? The Brookside Lions Club has the following equipment to give you to use until you don’t need it anymore: wheelchairs, canes, crutches, commodes, raised toilet seats, walkers, shower chairs, and bathtub side rails. DELAWARE VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICE – (302) 478-8850

Provides free health insurance counseling for people with Medicare, including those under 65 years of age. You can call DMAB at 1-800-336-9500 or (302) 674-7364 to set up a free counseling session with a trained volunteer at a convenient site near you. Our goal is to empower people with Medicare to better understand their options and enable them to make the best health insurance decisions for themselves. DMAB provides counseling and assistance on questions and problems related to Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap (Medicare supplement insurance), Medicare Part D, long-term care insurance, and other types of health insurance. There is no charge for the service.

The New Castle County Police Senior Roll Call Lifeline is a telephone reassurance program that offers daily contact to senior citizens residing in New Castle County. Residents interested in enrollment need to meet one of the following requirements:

  • Over age 55, single and/or married couples who live alone and have no daily contact with friends or relatives.
  • Have a disability that inhibits mobility and have no daily contact with friends or family.
  • Are without a person to conduct daily check on their wellbeing.

$TAND BY ME 50+ Program

Are you financially ready for retirement? Have you already retired and are having trouble managing your money and covering expenses? 

The $tand By Me 50+ program provides information, resources and support to increase the economic stability of Delawareans age 50+. 1 on 1 sessions with a certified financial coach aim to meet goals of financial stabilization and empowerment. Coaches provide education, support and guidance through a process largely driven by you. Coaching focuses on behavior change and empowering individuals to find their own answers. Included is an Economic Check Up, a screening tool provided through the National Council on Aging that identifies benefits that could save you money, finds ways to cut expenses and develops a concrete plan to achieve greater economic security. ALL SERVICES ARE FREE! COMMUNITY LEGAL AID SOCIETY, INC. ELDER LAW PROGRAM

The Legal Society provides Legal Services to Delawareans who are 60 years of age and over or persons with disabilities in non-criminal and non-fee generating cases. SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

If you’re an over 50 resident of New Castle County, ABLE Employment Services can work with you to find exactly what you’re looking for whether that’s a new challenge, a fulfilling opportunity, a more productive lifestyle or supplementary income. Please call ABLE at (855) 994-8300 to schedule an appointment with their employment specialist. 

AARP’S SAFE DRIVING

The AARP’s Safe Driving is designed to keep you updated on new and current rules of the road to prevent accidents. When you participate in the Safe Driving Course, you are eligible for a 10% reduction on the liability portion of your automobile insurance. The cost to attend class is $25. The check is made payable to “AARP” and presented to the Instructor at the time of attending the class. Individuals with AARP membership will receive a reduction of $5. Please bring your AARP membership card with you when attending the Defensive Driving Class. Please check the Center Newsletter for upcoming class dates and register at the Reception Desk.
