Project Consultants for Nonprofits (PCN)
PCN Volunteers

What is PCN?

Project Consultants for Nonprofits (PCN) is a group of experienced volunteers 50+ who work in small teams to assist nonprofits with short-term projects. PCN is coordinated by a self-directed Core Team.

What Are PCN’s Goals?

  • To increase the ability of nonprofits in New Castle County to get things done.
  • To provide experienced volunteers with meaningful and rewarding,
    short-term opportunities.
  • To explore the self-directed team as a model for structuring 50+ volunteerism.
    Why Was PCN Created?
    • Nonprofits today are faced with funding cuts, staff shortages and an increasing need for their services.
    • There are a growing number of boomers and others 50+ with skills that they would be willing to donate on a short-term basis.
    • There is a need for an organization to bring together nonprofits in need of assistance and experienced people 50+ willing to help.

What Are Some of PCN’s Projects So Far:
  • Revised a training manual for healthcare volunteers.
  • Helped reorganize a nursing home gift shop.
  • Created a marketing plan for a 50+ educational program.
  • Developed an annual report.
  • Led a strategic planning retreat.

  • Assisted with the development of a lending library.
  • Developed a training curriculum to help home day care providers create emergency plans.
  • Developed a room rental policy for a senior center.

For Nonprofits

PCN Is Looking For Additional Projects That:

  • Are short-term (2 to 4 months).
  • Involve skills such as program development, training, curriculum development, analysis, Internet research, focus groups, etc.
  • Are priorities for the nonprofit and will receive follow-through.

How Does It Work?

  • A nonprofit submits a request for service.
  • A PCN representative calls the requesting nonprofit for additional information.
  • The PCN Core Team determines if the project is a good match for the group’s skills.
  • A face-to-face meeting is held and a project proposal is developed.
  • At the conclusion of the project the nonprofit fills out an evaluation form.
